Social determinants of mental health

As a staff scientist at the Netherlands Institute of Mental Health and Addiction (Trimbos Institute), I studied the social determinants of mental health. Poor socioeconomic living circumstances can cause mental ill-health, which implies that reducing deprivation also supports a mentally healthy society. The team at Trimbos aims to determine what this means for the Dutch context and how good policy and practice on social determinants can stimulate public mental health. I employed a multi-method approach combining participatory research, interviewing, group model building and concept mapping, text mining, and multivariate statistics, among others.

A recent review paper from our team on this topic can be found here (in Dutch). This is my latest peer-reviewed article using text mining to estimate policy attention for the social determinants of health in Dutch parliament.
